Materials & Textures Help

Welcome to the Materials & Textures section of the 3D Editor. Here you can customize the look of your 3D models by applying different materials and textures.

1. Materials

Materials define how the surface of your 3D object interacts with light. You can adjust properties like color, reflectivity, transparency, and more.

  • Diffuse Color: Base color of the material.
  • Specular: Controls the shininess of the surface.
  • Roughness: Determines how smooth or rough the surface appears.
  • Metallic: Makes the surface look metallic.
  • Transparency: Controls how see-through the material is.

2. Textures

Textures are images or patterns applied to the surface of a 3D object to give it detail and realism.

  • Diffuse Map: The main texture that defines the surface color.
  • Normal Map: Adds small surface details like bumps and scratches without changing the geometry.
  • Specular Map: Defines which parts of the surface are shiny.
  • Roughness Map: Controls the roughness at a pixel level.
  • Opacity Map: Controls transparency for different parts of the object.

3. Applying Materials & Textures

To apply a material or texture:

  1. Select the object you want to edit.
  2. Open the Materials panel.
  3. Choose a material or create a new one.
  4. Adjust properties or add textures as needed.
  5. Preview the changes in the 3D viewport.

4. Tips for Better Results

  • Use high-resolution textures for more detail.
  • Combine normal maps with roughness maps for realistic surfaces.
  • Keep material names descriptive for easier management.
  • Experiment with transparency and reflection to achieve special effects.
